August went by swiftly and we are already halfway through September, so it is high time to share some thoughts on the progress of my twelve-month Happiness Project inspired by Gretchen Rubin. This post is part of my blog series The Happiness Project.
August Interior Decoration Month
As shared in my previous post, I have felt as if something wasn’t quite working yet in terms of the living-room layout. Things are still finding their new places, which is time consuming but worth it.
More importantly, I have acquired new lamps to add to the generic kitchen lighting, which is great for that purpose but certainly not for cosy, slow evenings.
My preference is never to use a ceiling lamp, unless there is cleaning or organising going on, but rather use several smaller sources of light. Among the new additions are one floor lamp and two table lamps, and counting these with my old lamps, there is finally some proper mood-enhancing stuff going on.
August can be declared a success!
September Tidying Month
This one is short but sweet! Last year in September, which happened to be only a short while before moving day, I set out to introduce a routine of tidying up a bit at the end of every day. Nothing fancy, just a few minutes.
Did it stick? Oh no. This particular habit is one that I keep remembering and forgetting, like a seesaw motion if not a perfect sine curve.
My intention is not to force myself up from bed, if I happened to remember this task only at that point, but it really, really, really would be helpful to put a few more things back in place at the end of each day.
Not only does is slowly look nicer at home, but weekly dusting and vacuuming are much quicker to finish, too.
Five minutes only!
